History


Established in 1995, the International Islamic University Chittagong(IIUC)stands as one of Bangladesh's premier government-approved private universities. The vision for this institutuion originated from the Islamic University Chittagong Trust(IUCT), a non-political, non-profit, organization founded in 1992.

The IUCT was registered under the Societies Act XXI of 1980 with the Governmentof Peoples Republic of Bangladesh. Recognizing the absence of higher learning institution aligned with the Islamic vision of life, the Trust proposed the establishment of a private Islamic University in 1990.

In 1995, the government approved the establishment of the Islamic University Chittagong, fullfilling the long awaited dream of the people of chittagong. The university was later upgraded to the International Islamic University Chittagong (IIUC) in 2020,earning recognition as one of the nine top-graded private universities by government-appointedHigh Powered Team led by the Chairmant of the University Grants Commission(UGC) of Bangladesh.

At present, IIUC holds the distinction of being one of the largest private universities, having 500 teachers(365 Regular Teachers) and approximately 13000 students from both home and abroad. The graduation degrees of Computer Sciemnce & Engineering (CSE) and Electrical and Electronics Engineering(EEE) are accredited by the Board of Accreditation for Engineering and Technical Education (BAETE). IIUC offers waivers, generous financial assistance , and scholarships to students based on academic performance and financial need.

IIUC actively participates in various natuional and international contest, consitently securing prestigious positions. To date, the university has susccessfully organized 17 international conferences on crucial topics related to education, sciences, ethics, and the Islamization of knowledge.

Legal Aspect

The establishment of International Islamic University Chittagong (IIUC) was made possible by the passage of a historic Act of Bangladesh Parliament – The Private University Act, 1992. Later on amended in 1998 and 2010 respectively. This Act empowers IIUC to frame its own Statutes, Ordinances and Regulations governing the manifold activities of IIUC like academic, administrative, financial, student welfare, discipline etc.
The Charter of IIUC as framed within the provisions of the Act and as approved by the Government empowers the University to confer degrees in various disciplines on undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
